Painted Pony 1 captures one of the paint horses that roam the foothills near Stoney Nakoda Nations, head down and grazing against a wide open Alberta sky.
The warm chestnut and white markings catch the eye in the foreground, while behind, the Rocky Mountains stretch across the horizon in soft, fading layers beneath a sky of blue and drifting cloud. The horse feels small against the landscape and yet completely at home in it, unhurried and unbothered by the vastness around it.
These horses are one of my favourite sights on the drive out to the mountains. Their bold markings catch your eye from a distance and they move through that landscape as if they grew right out of it. This piece was painted to celebrate that belonging.
It is ideal for collectors who love Alberta's wide open foothills and the animals that call them home, who want a piece that feels warm, open and quietly joyful.
Original watercolour on 100% cotton cold-pressed paper, comes matted with a soft white single mat.
Size: 8x10"
Year: 2025
Please note, the painting is sold unframed. Any frame shown is for presentation purposes only.
