Passing Through captures a young bull elk pausing at the tree line in Canmore, alert but unhurried, doing exactly what elk do when they have somewhere to be and no particular reason to rush.
Warm browns and soft earth tones build the elk's form against a loose, atmospheric background of pale pine and muted woodland haze. The composition feels caught mid moment, as if he sensed something just out of frame and turned to look, unbothered and completely in his element.
This piece was inspired by a chance encounter with a group of elk in Canmore who were entirely indifferent to my presence. Some were lounging, some were grazing, all of them moving at their own pace through a landscape they clearly owned. It is ideal for collectors drawn to wildlife with quiet personality, who want a piece that feels grounded, calm and deeply connected to the Canadian wilderness.
