Wild horses live free along the eastern slopes of the Rockies in Alberta, but their future is far from certain. Development, removal efforts and shrinking habitat continue to threaten their way of life. This piece was created to celebrate their wild spirit and resilience, and to honour the role they play within their herd, protecting one another in a landscape that is increasingly under pressure.
Unbroken captures a wild horse as it holds its ground with quiet authority and confidence. I wanted to celebrate that unbroken spirit, the kind of freedom that belongs to an animal that has never known anything else.
